Serious Geekery Ahead

When I was a kid, I loved the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. I had the action figures, watched the cartoons, and spent lots of time drawing them myself. Now, I play D&D and paint miniatures for fun. …and part of me was really sad when I found out that there had been a set of TMNT metal miniatures made in the 90’s that have been out of print forever, and are really expensive if you find them on Ebay. …the rest of me, though, saw a challenge: Make your OWN damn minis! Here’s the first result!

Leonardo Mini

He turned out a little big (32mm to the eyes instead of the 28mm I hoped for), but he still fits into the “Heroic” scale miniatures lots of companies sell! So, I call him a success! I’ll have to replace the swords with something more sturdy than the Sculpey I made him out of (probably metal), but other than that, he’s about ready to prime and paint! Only one question: Blue mask, or Red mask?

  • It's gotta be blue. unless you ditch the swords and replace them with sai's.

Also, if you want some help on how to make the swords more sturdy, you can check out http://www.coolminiornot.com/forums/ They used to be happy to help, and I'm sure they still would be.

If you don't want to check them out, instead of metal, you could use plasticard. Will be easier to work with than metal. I look forward to seeing the finished product.

(And, if you changed the weapons to sai's, people like me wouldn't have to google Eastman/Laird Ninja turtles, but the Red would be awesome too)

When are you going to return to tasty flesh?
  • Hey William! There's no set date as of yet, but I'm hoping that I'll be able to get back to it sooner rather than later. I've got some big plans for the strip when it returns, and I can't tell you how much it means to me that people keep asking about its return! It keeps me motivated to bring it back from the dead! ...like the webcomics necromancer I am. Mwahaha!

    Blueeeeeeeeeeeeee
  • You think? I was kinda going more for the gritty Eastman/Laird turtles, but I could see how having the various colors could be neat, too.... I'll have to think about it more. I'll have some time to mull it over, 'cause I still have to replace his swords with something that's not gonna snap off in a stiff breeze.
  • Oh wow, I didn't think of that... going gritty Eastman/Laird would be CLASSY, yo.
