SXSW 2010 Wrap-Up

I think that’s about the best souvenir I ever got! …and in case you were wondering, Nathalie Lussier (the Raw Foods Witch) is even more awesome & cute in real life than in her witchy video, which is pretty hard to do! Don’t worry: she went home in one piece. …but I think she was worried for a minute! Mwahahaha!

I got to spend time with some fantastic folks, who are far more fun than any people have a right to be. I traded obscenities with Naomi of IttyBiz, and found her to be my profane equal: also not an easy task! I was kidnapped for an evening by Pace & Kyeli to play Rock Band with the aforementioned Nathalie, and the illustrious Johnny B. Truant, who talks more about the evening (and his amazing Fred Schneider imitation) in his own SXSW post.

Among the awesome people who went to Fogo de Chao with us to watch me shovel a never-ending supply of meat down my gullet were Naomi, Megan, Charlie Gilkey and his lovely wife Angela, Melle, Taylor Lindstrom, Tzaddi Gordon, John T. Unger (who was part of the brilliant “Millionaire or Artist? Why not Both?” panel), Colleen Wainwright, Jeff Moriarty, Sonia Simone, and Kelly Parkinson. At Fogo de Chao, people keep bringing you amazing, gourmet meat on skewers until you flip your green coaster over to the red side in a display of surrender. Someone compared me eating to John Henry defeating the steam locomotive. I felt honored.

Between endless meat gorging, conversations that lasted ’til 4:00 in the morning, fighting off a nasty bout of food poisoning, meeting & spending time with some of the most excellent people I could’ve hoped for, and wearing my new hand-painted grenades around downtown Austin… I’d say SXSW 2010 was an unparalleled success!

Author’s Note: It certainly didn’t hurt that after they registered me for the convention, these two lovely ladies:

Lori & Stephanie gave me my 1st SXSW kilt check!

…followed me out of the convention center to give me a proper kilt check! Mwahahaha! Moral of the story? Invest in a kilt, guys! …and wear it regimentally. You never know who you’ll meet!

Mwahaha! You're right – I'm a cheater… but I did it for the funny, so I think it's okay. Plus, if you check out my Flickr photostream, you can see the other picture, and it's still got the original text intact. (^_^) Here's the link:

Thanks again for being willing to play along with me! You're more fun to hang out with than is legal in the continental U.S. …so be careful out there. Don't get caught!

Nice summary, as I had the fortune to meet many of those same people. Can't say I got much out of the technical part of SXSW this year, but for the personages met and connections made, it was GOLD, baby. GOLD!
