Miniatures

Now, many of you are already aware that I’m a big nerd. …and I wear my Nerd badge proudly. I play D&D every Sunday. I’m a video gamer. I play board games and card games based on the works of H.P. Lovecraft. I get dressed up and go to the Ren Fair on a regular basis. These things all contribute to my healthy dose of “Nerd Cred,” as we say in the basements of our mothers’ houses. However, I also like to think that all that nerdiness makes me kinda cool after a fashion. It’s not gonna get me into any A-list Hollywood parties… but in certain circles, I’m a good guy to know. So I accept any judgment that may be made against me for the following revelation:

I paint miniatures.

Mostly I paint them for D&D, and various other d20 games I play, but sometimes I just paint them because I find one I really like. Sometimes I even modify existing miniatures to make one I couldn’t find… like this guy:

Roderick1

He’s a Halfling cavalier, on a riding dog. The miniature was originally supposed to be riding a dragon, but it was a little too big and unwieldy, and I thought a big German Shepard would be a better mount for the little guy.

So, judge me if you must, but if you’re interested in seeing a bunch of other miniatures I’ve painted up, you can see the whole set on Flickr! I’ll be adding more to it later.

I’ve wanted to try this but I really suck at art and I’m sure I would just get very frustrated at my efforts. Your paint jobs look so natural its easy to forget they don’t come that way. I especially like Bubba & Alyx. Most of these look far too modern to be D&D though, what game do you run them in? I always dug White-Wolf personally but no one uses miniatures with it typically..

The modern miniatures I’ve painted up we used when we were play-testing the first playable version of my d20 zombie apocalypse game. I’ll be photographing the zombies I painted for the campaign, too, and posting them up later. It makes me happy beyond measure that I have both an Elvis impersonator AND a zombie Elvis impersonator in my collection! …or maybe the zombie version is The King, risen from his crypt in Graceland, seeking some hunka-hunka burnin’ flesh?

Who knew such an innocent lil christmas gift would turn into such awesomeness!!?

I think you should post the gorgeous ones you did for when we were playing D&D. Like my pretty with the firey shield!

I didn’t think it possible, but I think your shading and detail on them has gotten even better. Amazing!
